The Illuminators

Why hire an experienced Outdoor Landscape Lighting Company like The Illuminators?

  • Our focus is the design, installation and repair of outdoor and landscape lighting. We are properly trained in line-voltage (120V), low-voltage (12V) and LED lighting components, design techniques, lamp capabilities, and correct wire specification and placement. With outdoor lighting being our business we have all the right tools and knowledge to efficiently and properly install and/or repair any outdoor landscape lighting system. Landscapers, sprinkler installers, brick layers, most electricians, exterminators, etc... don't have the right tools or knowledge to properly design, install or repair outdoor landscape lighting. Why would you call a plumber to paint your home? Same holds true here. Why would you hire a sprinkler installer or landscaper to install your electrical outdoor lighting system and expect it too look good or be installed properly?

How much does an Outdoor Landscape Lighting System cost?

  • Since each lighting project and design is unique, its hard to put a "true" price tag unless we perform a free on-site design consultation specifically for you. Every project will have its own set of site specifics that need to be considered when formulating a design and ultimately a project cost. For your reference, smaller systems range from about $1,000 - $3,000 and usually take 1 day to complete. Medium size projects are about $3,000 - $6,000 taking 1-3 days to complete. Larger size projects are $6,000 and up and can take 2 or more days to complete depending on the size of the project. We can formulate a lighting system to fit any budget and the great part about outdoor landscape lighting is it can be very flexible to install so we can often install the lighting in multiple phases over time according to your budget.

What kind of service is provided after the installation?

  • We provide on-going annual maintenance and repair services as needed for our customers. All outdoor landscape lighting systems should have professional preventative maintenance performed on them 1 - 2 times a year to protect your original investment. Major system problems will occur over time if the lighting system is not properly maintained.

Do I need to plan ahead for an Outdoor Landscape Lighting System?

  • Most of our projects are installed to existing Landscaping. If you are having any landscaping or hardscaping done first, have a minimum 2" diameter Schedule 40 conduit run under any patio, walkway, or driveway hardscaping if possible. If your home is new construction, ask that a dedicated GFI electrical outlet be placed outside in a convenient location where there will be access to all areas and to dirt below the outlet. Do not place outlet above concrete, pavers, decking, etc... Wires need to be installed direclty from the transformer into the ground (dirt) if possible.

What damage will occur to my landscaping?

  • We use industry specific hand tools to install wire and lighting fixtures. Usually, the only evidence we were there are the wonderful lighting effects. We take great care not to disturb the existing landscaping.

How does a Professional Landscape Lighting System compare to a big Home Store Lighting kit?

  • There is no comparison. A professionally designed and installed lighting system uses components and techniques that are far superior to the home store kits. We usually install heavy brass and bronze fixtures along with multi-tap transformers (unless the client specifies different products). Home store fixtures will usually not provide much illumination intesity or look very good after a year. When you feel one of our fixtures in your hands at the free design consultation you will know the difference! Also, the tranformers purchased at the home stores are usually not multi-tap which means most of the store bought light fixtures will not be operating at the correct voltages. This means the home store lights will be dim.

How is my new Outdoor Landscape Lighting System controlled?

  • Most of our systems use a hassle-free astro digital timer. This turns your system on automatically at sunset and turns off at a desired time. All available control options can be discussed at the design consultation.

What is the cost to operate Outdoor Landscape Lighting?

  • The typical landscape lighting system costs just pennies a night to operate. If you are currently using a porch light or spotlights, you will be able to turn them off and enjoy the beauty and savings of low-voltage lighting.

My landscape plants were just installed will I have to put in new landscape lighting when the plants mature?

  • Outdoor landscape lighting is very flexible in its design and allows for easy movement or re-adjustment of fixtures as the landscape matures without significant labor or expense.

I am a Do It Yourself consumer can I buy landscape lights or other products directly from The Illuminators?

  • Yes, you can buy professional outdoor landscape lighting materials (light fixtures, transformers, bulbs, wire) directly from us. The Illuminators can also help in the design and configuration of your outdoor landscape lighting system (if required). Products supplied by The Illuminators are compatible with all existing low voltage landscape lighting systems.

Do you have a retail showroom?

  • We do not have a retail showroom. Just schedule a free design consultation and we bring the showroom to you. We bring samples of all the materials we usually install.

Do you have fixtures which can withstand harsh environmental conditions?

  • Yes, we utilize high quality, long lasting fixtures and hardware in all our outdoor landscape lighting installations.

My home is currently under construction when is the proper time to get you involved with landscape illumination?

  • It is a good time to begin discussing distribution of electrical power during the planning and construction of your home. As landscape designs are developed, we can develop our lighting design.

I don't want the Outdoor Lighting to shine onto my neighbor's property. Do you have a solution?

  • Our light fixtures are fully adjustable and include glare control shields. These features allow our installation crews to be very precise in directing fixtures and the light they produce to illuminate very specific areas.

I am interested in replacing my current Landscape Lighting System because the lamps are always burning out will your lighting system be different?

  • Yes, the LED lamps we use in our outdoor landscape lighting systems are long life and energy efficient. We use upgraded LED lamps. Most lighting manufacturers provide cheap bulbs that don't last very long after installation and in turn most other outdoor lighting installers use those cheap bulbs in their installations. Also, in some cases, you may not have to replace your entire landscape lighting system as it may just be poorly designed and/or improperly installed in which it may only need a few proper adjustments. The Illuminators can quickly determine if your existing outdoor lighting system is installed properly from a short on-site consultation. Give us a call and let The Illuminators get your system working correctly.

Good Ideas

  1. LED landscape lighting can save up to 80% in outdoor lighting energy costs, saving a consumer a significant amount of money per year over the other outdoor lighting options.

  2. All landscape lighting systems should have professional maintenance performed on them 1 - 2 times a year to protect system components and to prevent system deterioration and failure.

  3. LED outdoor landscape lighting is the safest form of outdoor lighting. LED landscape lighting produces very little heat compared to normal halogen landscape lighting. The LED lighting fixture is only slightly warm to the touch where as halogen 12 volt landscape lights can cause severe burns to people if touched.

We Retrofit Halogen Bulbs

The Illuminators installed LED retrofit bulbs into a customer's existing deck (puck) lights because their halogen bulbs were causing too much heat and caused the fixtures to be hot to the touch. After installing the LED bulbs the customer was happy to report that the heat problem had been solved.
