We Love Illuminating

LIGHTING TECHNIQUES

Simple graphic illustration showing an outdoor landscape spotlight placed in the grass, casting a beam of warm light upward onto the exterior wall and entryway steps of a house next to a plant.

Silhouetting

This technique produces a mysterious effect. The vertical surface directly behind an object is illuminated, which shows the shape but not the color or texture of the object.

Shadowing

The light is placed directly in front of an object, which creates a bold shadow of the object on the vertical surface behind it.
Pathlighting

Path Lighting

Path lighting allows for safe navigation and ambiance around the property, all while creating beautiful pools of light along walkways, patios, and pool decks.

Step and Deck Lighting

Changes in elevation are a safety hazard at night. Illuminating these high-traffic areas, such as terraces or steps, can create much safer navigation.

Tree Up Lighting

Up-lights are placed at the base of a tree, illuminating it from beneath. This highlights the color and detail of the tree.

Tree Down Lighting (Moon Lighting)

Down-lights are placed high in the branches of the tree. This creates a very soft and natural moonlight effect.

Grazing

Grazing is perfect for highlighting architecture. A stunning, highly detailed effect is achieved by placing a fixture directly against a vertical surface and aiming the beam up.
